The U.S. Department of Homeland Security seeks
to educate the public, on a continuing basis, about how to be prepared in case
of a national emergency – including
a possible terrorist attack.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) seeks to prepare the nation for
all hazards and effectively manage federal response and recovery efforts following
any national incident. They respond to disasters when they occur, help people
and institutions recover from them, lessen their effects, reduce the risk of
loss, and prevent disasters, such as fires, from occurring. On March 1, 2003,
FEMA became part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

The
Red Cross is the nation's premier emergency response
organization. They come to the aid of the victims
of devastating natural disasters with the aim
of preventing and relieving suffering. In addition
to domestic disaster relief, the American Red
Cross offers compassionate services in five other
areas: community services that help the needy;
support and comfort for military members and
their families; the collection, processing and
distribution of lifesaving blood and blood products;
educational programs that promote health and
safety; and international relief and development
programs.
